Sweet Corn Planting Basics
Plant a patch of sweet corn in your vegetable garden requires full sun exposure.  Consider preparing seedlings in plastic mulch for 10 to 20 days earlier for preparation.
  • Your garden layout should ensure that your corn will not shadow other crops that also require sun.
  • Select corn seed carefully, some varieties will mature earlier.
  • Soil should be fertilized before tilling.
  • Use a combination that will help the corn roots spread easier - sand as an additive is useful.
  • Make your rows for spacing them evenly.
  • Plant your seeds and gently pat the soil for firmness.
  • Plant several rows and wait about a week and plant another couple of rows for continuous harvest.
  • After each planting, saturate the ground by using a sprinkler setup.
  • Water as needed to keep the moise - about 1 to 1 1/2 inches of water a week.
  • Seeds should germinate in about 7 to 10 days.
